Collection: Artist: Jackson Pollock (1912-1956)

Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) was an influential American painter and a central figure in the Abstract Expressionist art movement. He is best known for his unique "drip painting" technique, in which he dripped paint directly onto a canvas lying on the floor, rather than using traditional brushstrokes. This method allowed him to create dynamic, spontaneous, and large works that are full of energy and movement.

Pollock broke with the conventions of painting and worked with a variety of materials and techniques that led to new forms of expression. His best known work from this period is "Number 1A" (1948), a typical example of his drip technique. Pollock's painting represents a type of "action painting" in which the creative process itself is the focus, giving his work a performative quality.

Pollock's influence on the art world was enormous, especially in the United States, where he was celebrated as a symbol of artistic freedom and innovation in the post-war period. His works profoundly changed the understanding of painting and art in the 20th century.

Despite his success, Pollock's life was marked by personal struggles and alcohol addiction, and he died in a car accident in 1956 at the age of 44.
