Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance and is considered one of the most versatile and important figures in history. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, scientist and inventor. His most famous works are "Mona Lisa" , a masterpiece of portraiture known for the mysterious smile of the sitter, and "The Last Supper" , a mural depicting the moment of the announcement of Jesus' betrayal.

Leonardo was also a pioneer of science and technology. His anatomical studies and sketches of machines such as aircraft and tanks were far ahead of their time. Although many of these designs remained theoretical, they show his extraordinary ability to combine art and science. In his notebooks he combined in-depth studies of human anatomy with visionary technical designs.

Leonardo da Vinci embodies the ideal of the "Renaissance man" as he excelled in a variety of disciplines. His curiosity and pursuit of knowledge in the fields of art, science and natural philosophy continue to shape his legacy today.
